South Asia is the southern region of Asia and comprises of several countries that include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan, Iran and Sri Lanka. These countries are home to over one fifth of our world’s population making it the most densely populated area of earth consisting of many cultures, languages and religons. Due to this vast size it has a long list of advantages and disadvantages and it’s almost impossible to list them all but I’ll try my best to list down as many as possible.
I’ll start with the strengths first. To me, the biggest and strongest plus point of south asia is the diversity that’s present here. We have a vast number of ethnicities, races, cultures, religions, languages and traditions present here. This makes people here more tolerant to others and tolerance is a great trait for any community for it helps the society to flourish. Another strong suit could be our culture, food and hospitality. Many people would agree with me that south asians are the most helpful and would go out of their way to help others. We do not discriminate the same way as it is practiced in other regions of the world. Also our culture encourages a family system and respect towards elders which has started to vanish from other areas.
Strength is the tenacity of our people who no matter what never seem to lose hope and faith. Our stubbornness to keep hold of our values and traditions. We’ll be willing to help someone even if it causes discomfort to our own self. People here are headstrong and will keep trying their best to do something and survive no matter what.
Also, South Asia is loaded with natural resources such as petroleum, forests, fish, water, rice, copper and silver. It also has great geographical importance with both land and water links to the rest of the world which makes it an ideal location for many industries.
Last but not the least South Asia comprises of countries with nuclear power which makes it powerful and fearsome. Not many countries have this vast supply of deadly weapons as countries here do and if that wasn’t enough we have huge military forces here as well.
Now to talk about the negatives. The most commanding issue is that of overpopulation with 116.5 people per kilometer square, which is huge when compared to other areas of the world. This leads us to another problem that is prevalent in this part of the world and that is of poverty and starvation. With so many people to feed and economy will suffer let alone third world countries like Bangladesh and Afghanistan. People die of hunger everyday and entire families live without the basic necessities of life, this is mainly because we do not have enough to cater to everyone.
