When I opened my eyes in this world, I came in contact with people, nature, religion, ethics and society but the element which added up on my personality and made me what I am today was the city I belong to; Karachi. Karachi is a very diverse society where people from all around the country come to with dreams held high wrapped in hopes of making something good out of their lives for themselves and their families. Karachi is more than just a name of a city, it is what I’ve known as my home , my life, my sacred space where I learnt to survive in this world.
Karachi for me (unlike most people) is my safe zone. I feel a sense of belonging here even though I have no family living here. My entire family lives abroad yet I’ve never felt lonely or felt like I need to get out just because it is “no longer safe here” or “some terrorist would kill me”. The truth is, you cannot escape death, it will chase you no matter where you run and still get you if it’s my time to depart. Karachi is a place full of color and life, it has it’s beautiful sea, the legendary shrines and palaces, beautiful churches, preserved British architecture, an amazing black market, the best food places and to top everything it is the economic hub of Pakistan. Life wouldn’t be life if I was anywhere but here and I would’ve really missed the essence of the reality of life.
